Skibstrafik øger smeltning i Arktis

KORT NYT: Øget skibstrafik i de arktiske indebærer, at isen smelter endnu hurtigere. Det slår forskere fra FNs Miljøprogram (UNEP) nu fast. Årsagen er, at sodpartikler fra skibenes udstødning gør isens overflade mørkere, og dermed mere modtagelig for solens stråler

”Det er en bitter kendsgerning, at i takt med at isen smelter, øger menneskeheden sin jagt på ressourcer i de arktiske egne, hvilket vil få isen til at smelte endnu hurtigere”, siger Nick Nuttall, talsmand UNEP, der har hovedsæde i Nairobi.

Arktisk Råd er også opmærksom på problematikken, og arbejder på at fremskaffe dokumentation der kan belyse problemets omfang.
