Dansk bidrag til newzealandsk skib

På værftet Western Marine Shipyard i Bangladesh kunne man forleden fejre køllægningen af et Solas passagerskib, der skal sættes ind på en rute mellem Tokelau og Apia, New Zealand. Skibsdesignvirksomheden Knud E. Hansen har bidraget til skibet på flere forskellige måder.

Skibet har kapacitet til at transportere op til 60 passagerer samt 50 ton gods og er designet til at holde en fart på 11,5 knob på den 270 sømil lange rute mellem Tokelau og Apia på øen Samoa.

Det 43 meter lange skib er bygget med henblik på at give passagerne maksimal komfort ombord, men der er også tænkt på miljøet, så moderne teknologier er anvendt for at reducere brændstofforbruget. Batterier vil blandt andet sørge for elektricitet til basale services såsom aircondition om natten.

Knud E. Hansen har blandt andet bidraget med optimering af skroglinjen, støj- og vibrationsberegninger, design af ventilation og aircondition samt EEDI-beregning.
