Shell vil efterlade resterne af Brent Bravo

Aktivister fra Greenpeace kravlede mandag op på resterne af Brent Bravo produktionsplatformen i Nordsøen i protest mod Shell´s planer om at efterlade fire platform jackets med deres indhold af olieholdigt spildevand.

“Shell´s planer er en skandale og går i mod internationale aftaler om at beskytte miljøet. At efterlade tusindvis af tons af oliespild i aldrende betonfundamenter vil før eller siden forurene havet,” sagde dr. Christian Bussau, der deltog i aktionen for Greenpeace.

Shell er i princippet forpligtet til at fjerne resterne af platformen ifølge konventionen om beskyttelse af havmiljøet i den nordøstlige del af Atlanterhavet, siger Greenpeace.

Men Shell har bedt den britiske regering om en fritagelse for konventionens forpligtelser for at kunne efterlade resterne af platformene, der indeholder omkring 640.000 kubikmeter olieholdigt vand og 40.000 kubikmeter olieholdigt bundfald.

“Olieindholdet i bunden af Shell´s platforme vil flyde ud i havet, når betonstrukturen bryder sammen. Shell´s planer er en tiggende bombe og totalt uansvarlige,” mener Greenpeace.

Shell mener omvendt, at det vil være farligere at forsøge at fjerne resten af platformene, fordi de aldrig blev designet til at blive flyttet igen. Et forsøg på at flytte dem, kan derfor få dem til at kollapse, mener Shell.
