Malaysia forbyder brug af åbne scrubbere

Malaysia følger nu i kølvandet på Singapore, Fujairah og dele af Kina, og forbyder brugen af open-loop scrubbere i dets farvande. Skibe i malaysisk farvand skal enten skifte til brændstof med lavt svovlindhold eller anvende close-loop, hvis skibet er udstyret med hybrid-scrubbere.

Åbne scrubbere udleder det vand der anvendes til at binde svovlet i udstødningen direkte i havet, og det er dette svovlholdige vand Malaysia ikke ønsker i dets farvande.

De malaysiske myndigheder oplyser samtidig, at malaysisk flagede skibe, der ikke er i stand til at skaffe brændstof med lavt svovlindhold, skal indhente dispensation fra myndighederne for at måtte sejle efter den 1. januar.
