Ophugning af Maersk FPSO var ulovlig

Højesteret i Bangladesh har nu slået fast, at ophugningen af den tidligere Maersk FPSO North Sea Producer ikke var lovlig. Højesteret opfordrer nu Storbritannien til at retsforfølge Maersk, medejeren Odebrecht og mellemhandleren GMS.

North Sea Producer blev bygget som Dagmar Mærsk, og senere ombygget til FPSO i et delt ejerskab mellem Maersk og brasilianske Odebrecht.

I 2015 North Sea Producer taget ud af drift og lagt op i Teesport. Året efter blev skibet solgt til mellemhandleren GMS. Mellemhandleren oplyste til de britiske myndigheder, at FPSOen fremover skulle operere i Nigeria, og North Sea Producer fik derefter tilladelse til at forlade Teesport.

North Sea Producer sejlede dog forbi Nigeria og fortsatte til Bangladesh, hvor GMS havde solgt skibet til ophugningsværftet Janata Steel. Her blev skibet efterfølgende ophugget.

Da North Sea Producer indeholder farlige stoffer, betragtes dele af skibet som farligt affald. Hvilket gør det ulovligt at eksportere fra EU.
