NGO advarer: én værftsgruppe særlig slem

Ud af 18 ulykker på ophugningsværfter i Bangladesh i år tegnede en værftsgruppe sig alene for de seks, oplyser NGO´en Shipbreaking Platform. Synderen er Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills (KSRM), der ejer flere værfter i landet.

To arbejdere mistede livet ved arbejdsulykker på KSRM-værfter, som der foreløbig har været seks af i 2022. I 2021 blev der registreret fem alvorlige arbejdsulykker og i 2020 tre på Kabir-værfter i følge Shipbreaking Platform.

Industriministeriet og myndigheden med ansvar for inspektion af fabrikker i Bangladesh har ifølge NGO´en flere gange været på besøg på værfterne, hvor der er blevet givet flere påbud, ligesom myndighederne tidligere har forlangt produktionen på værftet stoppet i fire måneder.

Men tilsyneladende uden det store held - og Shipbreaking Platforms direktør advarer da også banker om den bangladeshiske værftsgruppe:

“Det burde være yderst bekymrende for enhver finansiel institution, der hævder at tage ESG-spørgsmål alvorligt at være forbundet med en så forfærdelig praksis,” siger Ingvild Jensen, adm. dir. i Shipbreaking Platform.
