Ocean Cleanup passerer vigtig milepæl

Miljøinitiativet Ocean Cleanup, der har danske Maersk Supply Service blandt sine vigtigste støtter, har nu indsamlet mere end 100 tons plastikaffald, der flød rundt på Stillehavet. Helt nøjagtigt er der indsamlet 108,5 tons plastik over et havareal på mere 3.000 km2.

Indsamlingen er sket ved hjælp af to prototyper, System1 og System2, hvor sidstnævnte har været i brug siden august sidste år og udvist de klart bedste resultater.

En ny og endnu bedre udgave, System3, er lige på trapperne.

Der er dog fortsat uendelige store mængder af plastik tilbage i verdenshavene. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, en næsten massiv plastikø i Stillehavet, rummer alene 79.000 tusind tons plastikaffald.

Maersk Supply Ships har indtil nu leveret gratis slæbebådsservice til the Ocean Cleanup, og vil også fremover støtte initiativet.
