Ni ud ti havne trues af klimaforandringer

Ifølge et studie fra Environmental Change Institute på universitetet i Oxford trues næsten ni ud af ti store havne i verden af følgerne af klimaforandringer, hvilket kan resulterer i økonomiske konsekvenser for den globale handel.

Undersøgelsen giver et detaljeret billede af klima-risiciene for verdens 1.340 vigtigste havne. Og på grund af deres udsatte placering langs kyster og tæt på floder, vil de skulle klare stigninger i havniveauet og mere alvorlige storme på grund af klimaændringer.

De deraf følgende fysiske skader på infrastruktur og drift vil få vidtrækkende konsekvenser, fremgår det af studiet.

“Vi fandt ud af, at 86 pct. af alle havne er udsat for mere end tre typer af klimatiske og geofysiske farer,” siger forskningsleder Jesper Verschuur i forbindelse med offentliggørelsen af studiet.

“Ekstreme forhold til søs forventes at forårsage driftsforstyrrelser i omkring 40 pct. af havnene globalt. Desuden er havne udsat for andre farer som oversvømmelser af floder og jordskælv, så havnedesignere og operatører er nødt til at tage flere farer i betragtning. Hvis det ikke sker, kan det forårsage store forstyrrelser i den globale handel og forsyningskæder,” siger Jesper Verschuur.

Mest udsatte for klimaforandringerne er havne i Asien, Den Mexicanske Golf og i Vesteuropa, ifølge undersøgelsen.
