Grønt lys til verdens første skibstunnel

Efter mange års diskussioner er det nu er realitet, at verdens første skibstunnel bygges i ved Stad i Norge, og ventes klar i 2026. Det sker efter at Kystverket har modtaget et såkaldt oppdragsbrev fra Samferdselsdepartementet, der giver grønt lys til at starte projektet op.

Baggrunden for tunnelbyggeriet er et ønske om en kortere transporttid og en større sikkerhed for skibe, der dermed undgår at skulle besejle det farlige farvand ud for Stad i Nordnorge med bølgehøjder, der er målt til over 30 meter.

Tunnelen bliver 1700 meter lang, 37 meter høj over vandlinjen, 12 meter dyn og 26 meter bred. Det forventes at ville tage 3-4 år at bygge tunnelen der koster knap 3 milliarder norske kroner.

Idéen om en tunnel ved Stad i Nordnorge blev første gang lanceret i Nordre Bergenhus Amtstidende i 1874. Men der skulle altså gå mere end 140 år inden projektet nu ser ud til at blive til virkelighed.
