New round of axing at Maersk
SHIPPING: The decline in the world economy has affected A.P. Moeller Maersk in such a way, that Niels Smedegaard Andersen is now once again announcing an upcoming round of sackings. The top executive does not reveal the dimensions of the adjustment needed.
"We have already said goodbye to some members of staff, but we have to say goodbye to even more", says Niels Smedegaard Andersen to business.dk
Last year Maersk sacked 4.500 employees and now Niels Smedegaard is strongly initiating that the crisis may in effect help 'clean up' - inside the concern but also outside amongst all the a little too frisky businessmen, who have been making money out of the last couple of years' financial boom.
"Of cause it is hard, but generally speaking it is only healthy when a crisis helps clear things up. We believe that we are being sensible and we will not panic. We are focusing on making our business more effective as a service to our costumers and are at the same time looking at opportunities to make the company more effective", says Jens Smedegaard Andersen to the newspaper.
On Thursday, the investors punished Maersk for not clearly stating how the Maersk expects to leave the financial year 2009.
"A.P. Moeller -Maersk will in 2009 have to fight through the financial storm raging the world economy. It will without question be the most challenging year ever for the concern", says stock analyst Brian Boersting from LD Markets to the newspaper.
