New tourist record on Greenland cruises
SHIPPIG: Cruise tourism is growing fast on a global scale and Greenland is no exception. New numbers from the Tax Directorate shows that Greenland last year had 28.891 cruise tourists visiting - which is a record.
"We are very satisfied with this development, which clearly proves that our country has a lot to offer and that the Greenland tourist agents have been able to adapt and develop their products and services", says project- and communication manager Anders la Cour Vahl from GTE.
In light of the global financial crisis and the first service changes and cancellations, GTE sees the first tiny signs indicating that the cruise tourism is unlikely to experience equally large growth rates as in previous years.
"A realistic estimation would be that growth has checked this year and we might even experience a minor drop. This gives us even greater reason to try harder than before, so we can continue to be a place people want to visit", estimates Anders la Cour Vahl.
