The wind turbine industry need navigators
During the next eight years at least 3,000 new offshore wind turbines in European waters must be installed. It requires highly specialized installation vessels and skilled seafarers to operate them.
"The vessels’ responsible officers are vital in order to meet schedules and for work to go as planned", says Sune Strøm, economist in the Wind Industry.
"There is clearly a growing need for manpower - including the ship's officers' skills - in the industry, and it is important in this context that the Danish ship's officers make sure to have the right certificates for the highly specialized work", says Sune Strøm.
The Danish-led installation vessels are among the companies that have the greatest and longest experience in the industry.
"It gives developers a great assurance that the turbines will be installed on time - without costly delays. It is clear that it will minimize the risks - making Denmark the forefront of the market for the installation of offshore wind turbines", says Sune Strøm to Maritime Officers.
In addition to the work of installing wind turbines, there are many jobs in the maintenance of offshore wind farms - an area where there is a need for navigators.
"There is some competition in this area from helicopters - depending on how far the parks are from land. But it is of course crucial when heavy seas crew boats can operate in, and on that front will develop both platforms at the mills and the boat's design, so it's safe to put people in the higher lake", says Strøm.
