Better nautical maps for Greenland waters
SHIPPING: Greenland Self-Rule administration and the Danish government has agreed to produce better navigational maps, responding to the need for improved safety for the increased number of ships sailing Greenland's waters.
The 10 million kroner initiative comes as the number of ships sailing in Greenlandic waters has tripled in just five years.
"That's good for tourism, but it also places a higher Demand on our navigational maps," Danish Environment Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told Danish daily Berlingske Tidende.
Poulsen hoped the new maps would prevent maritime accidents, which could cost lives and lead to less pollution.
