DFDS made the difficult decision to sell the Oslo-Frederikshavn-Copenhagen (OFC) route to Gotlandsbolaget on June 11th with effect from November 1st, 2024. This means that we are now able to offer a candidate the opportunity to join Gotlandsbolaget on an exciting growth journey. You will be hired and employed by Alvina Shipping A/S OFC – part of Gotlandsbolaget together with +800 sea-based and shore-side colleagues.
As the Head of Ship Management, you will be responsible for driving an efficient, safe and reliable operation for the vessels in the Oslo-Copenhagen route and ensure continuous improvement related to efficiency, safety and reliability.
Gotlandsbolagets investment in the OFC route is based on the future possibilities of the service and we are embarking a very exciting development phase for the route, including all our employees. Although the route is well functioning and popular among the target group already today, development and investments in the ships and onboard experience is now being implemented to build an even more attractive route.
During the fall, a new name and brand is being developed and in the beginning of next year, the ships will go into dry dock for renovation. We are truly on a journey as a route and a company – the route has existed for more than 150 years, but now we build a new company.
Do you have the drive and capabilities to support our stakeholders to become a success? These are some of the exciting challenges you can expect to meet in this role:
- The leader of Masters in the Oslo – Copenhagen route.
- The leader of the DP-role, and possible future super intendents for the vessels in the Oslo – Copenhagen route
- The daily manager of the role “Group Technical Procurement”.
- Responsible for costs related to “deck & engine”
- Prepare, monitor and control financial budgets and financial forecasts related to “deck & engine”. This includes to identify and ensure execution of corrective actions if budgets and forecasts are exceeded.
- To monitor vessel performance, ensure reporting and initiate / implement / follow-up corrective actions.
- To supervise vessel’s day to day operations related “deck & engine”.
- To ensure correct maintenance standards of the vessels.
- This include to make sure that processes are updated and implemented, and that the relevant systems are updated and efficiently used.
- To ensure that the vessels adhere to all relevant safety regulations.
- Ensure that the vessels are performing as per requirements from Class, Flag state and other authorities.
- To prepare for dry dockings and to manage dry dockings.
- To investigate and provide support in claims related matters.
- To ensure an efficient collaboration with the other departments onboard and on shore.
A very exciting and challenging job with plenty of scope for working independently and an opportunity to develop your job content. The position is based at our office in the Copenhagen Terminal building, Dampfærgevej 30, 2100 Copenhagen E, Denmark.

- A bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Nautical Science, or a related field.
- Previous successful role as superintendent and/or chief engineer.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant working experience.
- Strong knowledge of safety standards and the latest industry practices.
- Good analytical skills.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluent in English and one Scandinavian language.

Travel days
In order to perform to the expectations of the role you must anticipate 30-35 travel days a year.
