Danish admiral to lead 25 fleets
SHIPPING: At a summit in Cyprus, the commander of the Admiral Danish Fleet, rear admiral Nils Wang, has taken over the command of Chief of European Navies (CHENS) - a union, which is an apolitical and informal forum of European navy commanders
Denmark now has the responsibility of the running of the union until August next year, where the Admiral Danish Fleet celebrates its 500-year anniversary. Denmark's focus during the commanding will be fighting piracy at the Horn of Africa.
Members of CHENS are European fleet nations, which either are members of NATO or EU and includes the countries: Belgium, Hungary, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Slovenia, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden and Turkey.
The command goes to the country members, and has for the past two years been with Cyprus. Therefore, Cyprus has for the past two days been host of a summit, at which the command was given to Denmark.
