New cruise ship quay in Copenhagen
PORT: Copenhagen Port is constructing a cruise ship quay, which will be used especially by turn-around ships that change passengers and crew in Copenhagen. The ships typically stay over night and receive water, provisions and the like.
Approx. 300 cruise ships visit Copenhagen annually with almost 600.000 passengers. The new cruise quay is expected to service around 60 per cent of these passengers.
The 800-meter quay is constructed facing the Sound directly. The most southern part of the quay is built on existing coast while the rest requires further constructions. The total investment mounts to around ? 47 million.
The construction is an agreement between CMP and the port owner of Copenhagen - City and Port. The approval from the authorities is expected in 2009, so the actual construction will begin in 2010 and the quay can be used from April 2012.
