Nordic naval officers training East Africans
On Sunday Nordic and African officers met in the Seychelles to participate in this week's naval exercise in the East African Standby Force. The exercise is a part of Denmark and the other Nordic countries' support to countries in eastern Africa
At sea, is it not at least rescue, inspection and pirate fighting, that are the challenges for Africans. These are the themes to be trained during the week.
This is done with help from the frigate Iver Huitfeldt, which is on a mission to combat piracy in the region and therefore it was an ideal platform for the exercise.
Seychelles hosts the exercise due to concerns about piracy threatening Seychelles’ two primary businesses: tourism and fishing. The small island state has only four small ships to patrol the vast waters of the Indian Ocean.
