Danish tanker fleet under heavy growth
SHIPPING: Last year there was a heavy growth in the fleet of tankers sailing under the Danish flag. During 2008 the Danish tanker tonnage grew from 2.1 million GT to 2.9 million GT. It is especially Torm and Maersk who take the lead in the expansion.
According to Danmarks Statistik, the Danish registered tankers now have a gross tonnage the double of that ten years back and bigger than ever. The tanker tonnage now accounts for thirty percent of the entire gross tonnage of the cargo ships sailing under the Danish flag.
The container ships' tonnage is almost unchanged compared to 2007, but over the past ten years the tonnage of the Danish container ships has more than doubled.
